For the first time two large red ribbons are displayed on the columns of the Elysee presidential palace, on December 1, 2009 in Paris, to mark World AIDS Day, supporting a cause dear to first lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy. The three-metre long (10 foot) ribbons were hung on the portico of President Nicolas Sarkozy's office and residence as his wife promoted the global campaign against AIDS in several media interviews. "Every year, there are new HIV infections in France and elsewhere in the world. We must remain mobilised to improve prevention of AIDS and care," said an Elysee statement. دعت فرنسا، الجمعة، رعاياها “الذين لا يزالوا في إيران” إلى مغادرة البلد “في أقرب وقت” بسبب الخطر “المتفاقم” بحدوث تصعيد عسكري بين إسرائيل وطهران بعد اغتيال رئيس المكتب السياسي في حركة حماس إسماعيل هنية.
كما قالت وزارة الخارجية الفرنسية التي لم تحدد عدد مواطنيها المعنيين بهذه التوصية الجديدة “رسميًا، لا يوصى للمواطنين الفرنسيين بالسفر إلى إيران أيا كان الداعي لذلك”.
