كشفت وزارة الدفاع الأميركية، الخميس، عن أن الجيش سيشارك في تأمين المرشحين الأساسيين لانتخابات الرئاسة، وذلك تلبية لطلب جهاز الخدمة السرية المسؤول خصوصًا عن حماية الشخصيات السياسية البارزة.
ويأتي هذا القرار بعد أكثر من شهر من محاولة الاغتيال التي تعرض لها المرشح الجمهوري دونالد ترامب في ولاية بنسلفانيا، عندما فشل خلالها جهاز الخدمة السرية فشلًا ذريعًا في حماية ترامب.
